So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Return, O LORD! How long?
Have pity on your servants!
Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.
Let your work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands! Psalm 90:12-17
Our days here are numbered. They can be counted on one hand. There is so much to do, it still seems, and so many goodbyes to speak. We are anxious to go so that we might see family. And so many here have become family to us.
In the Psalm appointed for today, we are reminded of God's steadfast love and God's promise of a heart of wisdom. Despite our aches and pains, our losses and anxieties, God is with us every new morning, We have nothing to fear or be anxious about despite the changes and movement ahead. God is with us morning and night, in the packing up and saying goodbye as well as in the left behind. No one is left behind, truly, for God is present with us in these changing times.
I ask God for wisdom and peace in this time of leaving. May our hearts be open to all the love that surrounds us. May our hearts be grateful for the love we have received. May we know that God is with us in every changing moment, every coming and going, now and evermore.
