So Loved

‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
‘Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgement, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God.’ John 3:16-21

Each and everyone of us needs to know we are loved completely and totally, just as we are. And the world around us, the earth itself needs now more than ever to be spoken of as beloved and cherished. Each
living being thrives when loved, and is weakened by the lack of love.
We need to speak love, deep and abiding love, to every corner of our universe, recognizing the love of God as we articulate it to those around us.

In our Gospel reading today we hear of the heart of God, which, full of compassion for all creation, offers once and for all Jesus for the sake of all. Love so deep, so high, so broad, understood as being for all of us. There is no limit to this love, as it is for the whole wide world and not for one time, place or people. We are invited to recognize that long before we can see or know love, God was surrounding us and offering a savior for the whole world.

Today, I ask God to help me be a conduit of love. May we recognize how loved we truly are and share that divine, unending love with a world that is desperate to known and loved.
