Blessed

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:1-10

Blessed

Loving Creator who names us as children
we come to you today worn down again
by those who would not see the danger
by selfish ones who would compromise all
for the sake of money in their hands.

We who are poor in spirit, lift us up
we who are mourning too deep for words
we are trying to bring peace and love
lift us and hold us close in these days
when blessings seem so very far away.

Bless the single mothers and fathers
who struggle to provide day in day out
bless the caregivers and the cleaners
the ones who no one sees nor recognized
bless them double for saving us all.

Bless the angry and the broken hearted
bless those who are persecuted at home
bless the mask makers and the kind ones
who call and feed the sick and lonely
bless us with your love so we might serve like them. Amen.
