A Prayer for the 20th Anniversary
Loving Creator, your gather us in your arms
comforting us and soothing the memories
calling us to compassion and understanding
to continued healing and more resilience.
We were broken then and are broken now
then by such loss, trauma and terror
we distrusted strangers and neighbors
as we likewise fear those with disease.
We have sought to blame and punish
to crucify those who would cause us pain
yet we are often unwilling to look inward
to our own unkind and destructive behaviors.
You are present, Lord, in our deepest sorrows,
cradling us and rocking us with deep love
hold us now until we are strong enough
to carry your love to this broken world. Amen.
