Jesus said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:17-20
Fulfilling the Law
O Great Spirit who talked with the elders
in these hard times of want and illness
You know how we are drawn to curse and cry
You know that we are in tangles and torments
and You walked the path of love with the Ancestors.
We think we have come so far beyond laws
yet we fall into pits of our own designing
we can be selfish, unkind and cruel in fear
we can turn against the ones we owe our lives
today You invite us back to love's journey.
Help us to honor those who are mourning now
give us the strength to embrace the suffering
revive us so that we can house the homeless
renew us so that we can see the increasing need
let us be Your hands working in this world.
You have offer you life for all the world
because You loved us so Fiercely and fully
We are your broken and foolish children
infused with Your love we can become again
those who live and bring the law of love to all. Amen
