Rust Consume

Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
“No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” Matthew 6:19-24 

Rust Consume

Everything and everyone is crossing over
nothing is forever, we can hold onto nothing
we are all fading away even as stardust and ashes
Yet even at the grave we make our song Alleluia.

The precious treasures of our lives today
are screaming in the hallway, whining at school
losing their socks and teeth, staying up too late
the golden gifts surround us and we are rich.

We often envy those who are at the heap's top
yet they fear losing ground in every moment 
they try to look young and keep their wealth
while love fades away and turns to dust.

We know the fragility and brokenness of life
we are here but briefly and then taken away
love endures beyond life and understanding
run, embrace love for it has come to stay.

Life and beauty, wealth and status fade
yet even at the grave we make our song Alleluia!
