Since many have undertaken to set down an orderly account of the events that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed on to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, I too decided, after investigating everything carefully from the very first, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the truth concerning the things about which you have been instructed. Luke 1:1-4
Today we celebrate the Gospel writer Luke, who told the story of Jesus through the Gospel and the Acts. He listened closely to the elders who were "there" and shared their insights and their stories of faith. He connected the first witnesses to the life of the church as it was being formed. Luke created poetry and word pictures to help us all understand Christ's love for the world. As we serve where we are planted, Luke invites us to paint word pictures and lived experiences that help our neighbors know the love of Jesus.
Gracious Creator, you sent us scribes
to tell the stories of the witnesses
who were showered with your presence
who walk the dusty roads with you.
The world is in need of story tellers
those who can share their rich blessings
the gifts of love you have given us
the stories of healing and redemption.
Help us to be brave with our story telling
sharing from our hearts your love for all
strengthen us for service in these times
so folks may see you present with them. Amen.
