Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, ‘Sir, we wish to see Jesus.’ Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Jesus answered them, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor. John 12:20-26
Throughout out the Gospels foreigners come to Jesus and he loves them and heals them. We live in a country where leaders say they are followers of Jesus but have failed to really understand anything about Jesus. Even early on when a foreign woman asks for healing, he tries to refuse but she convinced him. From that point on, the disciples still might refuse people but Jesus never did. The Greeks wanted to see him and see him they did. If we want to see Jesus then we need to be in places where the poor, the sinners, the rejected and foreigners are.
Marvelous Creator, you made a diverse humanity
so we might know of your dynamic love for us
and learn to love those who are different from us.
We live in times when folks are excluded and judged
sent away because they want freedom ad receive bars
they are hidden from our eyes so we can't know them.
Lord Jesus, open our eyes and our hearts always
so we might go to the dark corners of our cities
and carry your light to those who are afraid to live. Amen
