To The Mountain

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20

To the Mountain

How do we live after the empty tomb?
Do we believe the women who told us?
Shall we run to the mountain at full speed
only to be broken open again?

We are all so tired from running and hiding
weary from being outcasts and dismissed
this call to the mountain is hard to reach
the direction we must go from here is harder.

We felt safe when we could follow his feet
his gentle rebukes helped us to thrive
now on our own with so many questions
we are called to the heights that we fear.

He is here among us and radiantly whole
we are dusty, hungry and shaking from it all
he is calling us to go and we want to stay
huddled at his feet, being rebuilt by love.
