Telling the Story

Since many have undertaken to set down an orderly account of the events that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed on to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, I too decided, after investigating everything carefully from the very first, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the truth concerning the things about which you have been instructed. Luke 1:1-4 (NRSV)

Loving Creator you whisper our stories
so that we can retell them to our children
so they can understand how blessed we are
and how we are small part of a larger story.

The winter is on the horizon and in the wind
the leaves fall to make the woodlands carpet
we dry our food and store all the summer seeds
so we can renew life in your appointed time.

The world harbors so many confusing stories
and many make money on telling their lies
you have promised to bring light in darkness
and to set the prisoners and suffering free.

Give us voices to share the story of your love
give us strong arms to help those who are in need
strengthen our weak hearts so we can share
in helping set the captive and suffering go free. Amen.
