Kamehameha and Emma

As Jesus came near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, “If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. Indeed, the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up ramparts around you and surround you, and hem you in on every side. They will crush you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave within you one stone upon another; because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.” Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling things there; and he said, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’; but you have made it a den of robbers.” Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him; but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were spellbound by what they heard. Luke 19:41-48

Kamehameha and Emma

Creator God who planted us on homelands
blessing us with good harvests and beauty
we remember the lives of those who fought
to preserve the sacred land for others.

Too often we have taken what is not ours
too often we have coveted others' homes
too often we have destroyed the beauty
in order to control the land and the people.

We live in times of great destruction
our Mother Earth is under attack
we sit idly consuming and neglecting
while our ancient ones cry out to us.

Help us to honor them by caretaking
for  all the islands small and large
let our steps be gentle and reconciling
so that all might know the blessings. Amen.

The Collect for Kamehameha and Emma

O God, who called your servants Kamehameha and Emma to an earthly throne that they might advance your heavenly kingdom, and gave them zeal for your church and love for your people: Mercifully grant that we also may be fruitful in good works, and attain to the glorious crown of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
